Chemo Day 82, (Round 6, Day 14)

The Rollercoaster

Chemotherapy is a crazy rollercoaster. Today, day 14 of round 6, I’m starting to recover, slow but steady, from the chemo side effects. As expected, this round was indeed a bit worse than the last, the cumulative effects are building up and are even more intense. The bad days lasted longer, the good days were fewer. The ascent back has been slow and strained, like that old rollercoaster car clanking and its way away towards the summit. However, knowing what to expect this time, I was much better prepared emotionally and physically. I’m ready to power through the last 2 rounds.

Round 7… ready or not, here I come!

Facing round 7 tomorrow, I feel like the girl in this picture. About to be dragged down to earth by gravity, an inevitable fast and scary descent ahead. The only thing to do is hold on and take off. There will be another ascent ahead, then the ride will be almost over. So like the little engine that could…I’ll keep inching back up this rollercoaster, preparing for the drop, chanting “I think I can, I think I can”. With only 4 weeks of chemo to go…I KNOW I can!

I was fortunate to have no allergic reactions to the new chemo (Taxol)  in round 5 or 6. So, tomorrow we can start off at the higher dosage speed and it will take only 3 hours, not 5. And then the ride will start over.  My last round of chemo will be on February 2nd. I will have a new PET scan done on February 11th, and then I’ll meet with my surgeon on February 15th to make a plan based on the scan results, and schedule surgery for early March.

My future is so bright, I’ve got to wear shades!

Thanks for hanging in there with me through the ups and downs. More to come soon. 💕
